Recovery Corner Depression/Bipolar Recovery Group of Midtown Denver

July's meeting will be on Thursday, July 17. Rev. Hank Sickinger will be our speaker, bringing the topic of stress management.

The Group meets on the 3rd Thursday of each month, 7:00 PM, at Messiah Community Church, ELCA, 1750 Colorado Blvd (Parking and entrance to the east of the building off of 18th).

The Depression/Bipolar Recovery Group of Midtown Denver is a community-based group for individuals with depression or bipolar disorder and their family and friends. The group meets for an hour educational presentation followed by an hour of smaller groups. For the smaller groups, there are three tracks with groups of six or fewer. Track 1 is for individuals with depression or bipolar. Track 2 is for family and friends. Track 3 is for adults ages 18 throuh twenties.The group is peer directed and peer run and observes a confidentiality policy. It has a wellness focus.

Mission Statement: To provide high quality education for the general public and to facilitate support groups for individuals challenged by depression or bipolar disorder and their family members and close friends.

Questions about disability? SSI/SSDI, NAMI-Denver program, Wednesday, July 16, at 7:00 PM, Mental Health Center of Denver (MHCD), 4141 E Dickenson Pl, Denver. Sarah De:Lashmutt, guest speaker, on the topic of eligibility and navagating the system.

A highly acclaimed series about bipolar disorder by Dr. Alisha Brosse will be presented by the Robert D Sutherland Center, UC Boulder, Room E214 Muenzinger Psychology Building, University of Colorado – Boulder. Peer Specialist Training: Offered this fall semester through Community College of Denver as part of the Human Services Certificate Program. This year Fort Logan is looking to start a Peer Specialist team at the Fort Logan State Hospital. Other employment opportunities are available. Qualified candidates must complete an interview. Call your County Workforce Center. Many jobs are being advertised on the list serves I receive. Most of these are through the County Workforce Centers. If you would like to be on some of the list serves on employment that I receive, send me an email at BeyondBipolar@mac.com. Also, remember that the Workforce Centers have special counselors for those with disabilities. If you have bipolar disorder or major depression, you are eligible for these services. (Sometimes a simple accommodation can help you keep or find a job.)
